Global Growers Rockdale Organic Co-Farm
In 2021 Farmer D was hired by Global Growers Network, a non-profit that partners with multiple communities who grow fresh food for their local communities and marketplace.
Farmer Dās role was to help develop a master plan for their newly acquired 22 acre property in Rockdale County, Georgia. The goal was to transform an equestrian farm into a regenerative working farm for a diverse group of farmers and provide spaces for production, processing, retail, education and community gatherings.
The master plan was used to inform the build out of the farm and to support fundraising efforts.
The Global Growers Network farm master plan consists of a wide variety of uses from production fields, educational gardens, agroforestry, perennial hedgerows, trails, event barns, post harvest processing, greenhouses, high tunnels, composting, distribution, retail, housing/hospitality and community gathering spaces. The primary goal of the site is to provide Global Growers Network members a place to farm, bring their families, engage community, support their livelihoods and continue their cultural heritage.
This property will serve as a flagship farm for the decade-old organization. Located on 23 acres of prime farmland in Conyers, the new farm will be home to 15-20 small farm operations led by growers from diverse cultures. The certified organic farm will model cooperative farming practices as a shared community farm that will grow fresh and culturally diverse foods from around the world. In addition, the site will feature spaces for community gatherings, farm events, pick your own fruit and vegetables, and celebrations of local and global food culture.
The farm property was acquired with financing from the Working Farms Fund program led by The Conservation Fund. Within three years, The Conservation Fund will secure a conservation easement that will permanently protect the farm and reduce the final purchase price for Global Growers Network.
