Services

At Farmer D Consulting, we bring visions of regenerative farms and farm-centered communities to life. From small-scale homesteads to community masterplans to regional land use frameworks, we tailor our services to support the land, people, and purpose behind every project.

Design

We design farms and farm-centered communities that are productive, resilient, and inspiring. Our design work spans a wide range of scales and uses—from homesteads and educational farms to agrihoods, resorts, and regional planning initiatives.

Our collaborative approach integrates agriculture, ecology, and community, ensuring that each design reflects the unique potential of the site, the goals of the client, and the needs of the community. Whether you're looking to grow food, educate youth, engage your community, or enhance conservation efforts, we design spaces that do it all.

Site Analysis

Conceptual Design

Masterplan

Design Services include:

  • Site Analysis – A comprehensive evaluation of current site conditions, compiling data such as topography, soil, water, climate, context, and infrastructure to inform site design.

  • Visioning & Programming Workshops – We facilitate engaging workshops with project stakeholders to co-create a shared vision and mission that guide the project and define key site functions and design priorities.

  • Conceptual Design – A high-level spatial plan that illustrates the proposed arrangement of key land uses such as food production areas, ecological zones, enterprise spaces, housing, and gathering areas. This phase translates the project vision into a preliminary site layout, establishing relationships between program elements and guiding the next stages of design.

  • Design Development – Detailed planning for priority areas of the site, such as production gardens, animal grazing systems, educational spaces, and infrastructure zones. This phase translates the conceptual layout into detailed design solutions. Focused design packages support budgeting, phasing, and implementation planning.

  • Farm Infrastructure Design – Scaled design plans for essential farm systems and structures, including barns and storage buildings, irrigation layout, fencing and gates, wash/pack stations, composting systems, roads, and utility access. These plans support efficient farm operations, align with land use goals, and are ready for implementation.

  • Regenerative Farm System Design – Designing diverse, integrated farm systems that regenerate soil, build biodiversity, and produce nutrient-rich food. This includes multi-species cropping systems, cover cropping, perennial plantings, rotational grazing plans, and composting strategies that work together to create resilient, closed-loop ecosystems tailored to the site’s conditions and goals.

  • Homestead Landscape Design – We provide site specific plans for vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, small livestock systems, and pollinator habitats. Along with our designs, we offer guidance and education on sustainable practices, soil health, water conservation, and livestock care to help you cultivate a productive, resilient homestead.

  • Agrihood Design – We provide site design for agriculture-integrated residential communities that balance food production, nature, and neighborhood life. We create thoughtful site layouts that incorporate community gardens, shared farming spaces, agricultural enterprises, greenways, and water management systems, ensuring agriculture is woven into the fabric of daily life. Our designs foster connections between residents, the land, and their food, promoting sustainability, resilience, and community well-being.

  • Masterplan Design – Developing comprehensive, multi-use plans that integrate farming, education, hospitality, and conservation into cohesive, functional spaces. Whether for residential communities, resorts, or hospitality venues, we design holistic masterplans that balance agricultural production, sustainable infrastructure, and community engagement. Our approach ensures seamless connections between farming, educational programs, guest experiences, and conservation efforts, creating a vibrant, resilient environment that supports both people and the land.

Plan

We guide projects through critical planning processes that accompany or support the design process. Planning exercises ensure a strong foundation for implementing the project in alignment with your goals, budget, timeline, the land’s potential, and the broader context. Our planning services help align vision with viability, preparing you for successful implementation.

    Homestead Client

  • “The farm at Serenbe has been a huge success! I want to thank you and congratulate you for taking a worn out piece of Georgia red clay and turning it into a vibrant certified organic farm. The members of the community have had nothing but great things to say about you and the produce coming out from the farm. The sense of community and quality of life it brings to Serenbe is a great asset to our development. We are absolutely delighted with the progress of the farm and are lucky to have you as part of the team. Though we were sad to see you move on to new projects, we are very happy with the management team you have selected and with your ability to oversee them from afar. We look forward to working with you more as our community continues to grow.”
