Making Soil Blocks at Home
The Soil Block Method
One good thing about gardening from home is the reduction of waste. Having plants in your backyard not only saves on the materials typically used to package them, but it also limits the energy put into shipping them to grocery stores. You can utilize methods of gardening to reduce waste even further.
One of these methods is making Soil Blocks. This is done by taking your germination mixture and using a tool to compact it considerably into small squares or circles. The plant is placed in the compacted soil and due to the compaction, the soil retains shape and serves as a container-less container for your seedlings. You can either purchase a soil blocker, or make one from home. Once you have a block maker, you can go through your growing seasons never using plastic or other containers for your seed germination.
