GETTING READY FOR SPRING

Before you know it the holidays will have come and past and spring will be on its merry way! One way to be prepared for the busy growing season is to put in raised beds or give your existing garden extra boost with compost and cover crops. Giving the gift of a garden to a loved one is the perfect way to show how much you care and provides a wonderful activity that can be enjoyed by all involved.

Raised bed garden kits are 20% off along with a selection of composting solutions, Farmer D Compost, and soil. Now is also the time to put in your fruiting trees which are 10% off! Stop in to a Farmer D Organics Garden Center or visit our website for more great deals on Green Gifts for the Holidays.

Plant of the Week:
Pak Choi
Pak Choi is an asian green with leaves that are soft and succulent, with crunchy white or green stalks and young sweet flower shoots. The whole plant is edible. The slight mustard flavor of the young Pak Choi leaves make it a great addition to stir-fries, soups, noodle and meat dishes, and salads. In China, the coarser leaves are often pickled. Pak Choi is a great plant to grow in the Southeast United States during the winter growing season.

School Garden tips from Farmer Ashley
This holiday season, give the gift of organic produce to your child through the installation of a school garden! Winter is the perfect time to put in a Farmer D School Garden due to the slower growing season. Now is also the time to think about what you want to see growing in your school garden for the spring. We are currently taking orders for seeds and seedlings that you can plant in February and harvest in May. If you need help planning or would like to place an order for plants, email ashley@farmerd.com .

BAG IT AND SAVE IT
While leaves may be a great addition to the compost pile, too many leaves can spoil the soup! If you have a yard full of trees and you are raking up more leaves than your compost bin can handle, store excess leaves in plastic bags with holes punched through a few places in your garden shed or by your compost system. These leaves will continue to decompose and can be added to your compost later when your compost needs a boost.
