PLANT OF THE WEEK: HAKUREI TURNIPS This white "salad turnip" sets the standard for flavor!
The flat-round, smooth white roots mature early, just after radishes, and are best harvested young, up to 2" diameter. The sweet and fruity flavor is great raw and the texture is crisp and tender. The dark green hairless tops are useful raw or lightly cooked with the roots. Compared with other early white turnips, Hakurei tastes better and stays smoother as it sizes. Check out Farmer D Organics for a wide variety of fall seeds including the Hakurei Turnip.

Compost
Corner (Keeping
It Hot! Farmer D's Compost Tips)
START A NEW COMPOST PILE
Pull summer crops such as tomatoes, corn and okra and use them as a base for building a new compost pile. Crisscross stalks on the ground and layer the plant material, grass clippings, soil and vegetable scraps on top. This bottom layer will provide good aeration to your compost pile above.
Farmer D Organics believes compost is the foundation to
healthy soils and healthy farms. LEARN
